San Agustin Daycare

The San Agustin community daycare centre is located roughly 40 minutes drive from Tacloban.

The building was severely damaged by Typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda in the Philippines) leaving 45 children without important opportunities for play and early learning.

The centre was previously supported by local NGO ‘Gawad Kalinga’ who fixed the main structure of the building.

However after this was done there was further damage to the roofing caused by Typhoon Ruby (known internationally as Hagupit).

IDV repaired this latest damage in December 2014 and made sure the centre’s electrical supply was safe and in working order.

We then turned the empty interior into a true child friendly space with lots of colour, furniture and stimulating learning materials.

The daycare centre now provides a place families can leave their youngest kids in confidence, and will also double as an additional evacuation centre for the community during future typhoons.
