Guintigian School

The Guintigian Elementary School is located about 30 minutes drive from Tacloban.

The school was damaged by typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda in the Philippines) leaving its 147 kids learning in terrible conditions.

Two of the school’s classrooms were badly exposed to the elements. The roofs leaked and during rains classes were suspended and chool supplies were damaged.

In December 2014 IDV began working to address these problems.

We began by renovating and extending one of the classrooms and completely rebuilt the second one from the ground up.

This second new classroom was then divided into two smaller rooms. The first room is now used by the school’s kindergarten class and the second holds a library which the community also uses and benefits from.

The school also only had one bathroom so we added a second to improve sanitary conditions for all the kids.
