The Anibongon Elementary School is located in the municipality of Jaro, which is almost 2 hours from Tacloban.
The school was devastated by typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda in the Philippines) leaving its 76 kids learning in appalling and dangerous conditions.
The only bridge to the community was destroyed by Haiyan, and for almost 17 months no NGO would provide help due to the logistical challenges involved.
But these challenges didn’t put us off and at the end of April 2015 we began work to repair and refurbish four of the school's classrooms.
We completely replaced the roofs and internal ceilings on two of the classrooms, and we also repaired the roofs on the other two. We also repainted the classrooms to give them a fresh, welcoming feel.
